VAB 6X6 TRANS[PORT 1/35
Over 5.000 armored amphibian vehicles (Véhicule de l'Avant Blindé / armored front vehicle) are in service in 14 countries off all continents. Usually manufactured as a four-wheel drive version used by the French army - the VAB is often sold for export in the six-wheel drive version. A better cross-country capacity explains the choice made by African countries such as Morocco or the Middle East.
This vehicle was frequently used in fighting operations as well as in restoration or peace-keeping missions, particularly in the context of the United Nations and NATO. In Bosnia, where between 200 and 400 VAB's were permanently on hand; the availability rate was over 90% whilst maintenance only concerned the usual upkeep. The new VAB weighs 16 tons due to a 300 HP engine an automatic gear box.
As with the 4-wheel drive, improvements are numerous: a reinforced inflating and deflating system of the patterns, as well as a modernized dashboard.
