To celebrate the 80th anniversary of the introduction of the first LNER Class A4 locomotives, we're proud to present a limited edition set of four silver LNER 4-6-2 Class A4 locomotives. In 1935 the first four A4 locomotives, which had been specifically built to haul a new streamlined service between London, Kings Cross and Newcastle, left the LNER Doncaster Workshops. The first A4 was named Silver Link, which had been inspired by a line from Sir Walter Scotts poem, The Lay of the Last Minstrel; the second A4 was Quicksilver, the third Silver King and the fourth being Silver Fox. All four locomotives were painted in silver/grey livery to match the Silver Jubilee streamlined coaches. The Silver Jubilee service ran for four years but was cancelled at the outbreak of the Second World War and never reinstated. Each Silver Jubilee A4 locomotive in the Collection has been produced as a limited edition in specially commissioned individual packaging and is complete with an authenticating certificate - each of the collection of four will contain the same numbered certificate. Set includes: Silver Link Running number: 2509 Quicksilver Running number: 2510 Silver King Running number: 2511 Silver Fox Running number: 2512 |
